Voula, Sunday May 25th 2014, 19:00.

OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team sponsored by ASPIDA Maritime Security and SAXO BANK competed today in Windward/Leeward Races organized by Nautical Club Voula as part of Spring Series 2014.  The Race Committee managed to complete the 2 races scheduled for the day and OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK scored 5 and 9 respectively finishing in 8th place for the day.  This result compared to last weekend shows an improvement but still away from the podium.  OPTIMUM Team is working hard to improve and reach its full potential as soon as possible.

“Today, we fought hard for every second out on the race course and in the first race of the day finished 5th on corrected time.  The interesting part is that the seconds separating 1st from 5th were 19, 34, 40 and 58 for a race that lasted 45’33” for us.   58 seconds separated us from 1st , 14’’ for stepping on the podium!  On aftermath, during the debriefing we tried to figure out which of the numerous split second decisions taken during the race could have affected differently our final result for the race and that is how we improve race after race. It is a long process that we are keen to follow to be successful this season too!”  stated pitman and loyal crew member Nikos Apostolakis.

OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK crew line-up for the Voula weekend consisted of Alexandros Sofroniadis, Alexis Marugas, George Hatzigeorgiou, Thanos Papasideris, Nikos Apostolakis, George Kyragiannis, Kostas Makridis, George Belesis, Alexis Chrysochoides, Patroklos Tachtatzis, Manos Roudas, Nikos Lazos, Periklis Livas, Alexandros Steinhauer and George Eliopoulos.  The title of Most Valuable Crew (MVC) for the whole weekend goes to trimmer and long time OPTIMUM crew member Alexis Chrysochoides for his consistent jib trimming ability combined with positively relaying info from the back of the boat to the guys in front.
