June 22, 2015

Spetses, Sunday June 21st 2015, 20:00.

OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK team members competed at SPETSES CLASSIC YACHT RACE 2015 that took place in Spetses island on 18-21/6/2015.  This is the main event of Classic Yacht Racing in Greece and Classic Yachts from around the world are joining every year to live their myth in Greece and particular the waters of Spetses Historic Island. No less than ten OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team men joined the exceptional event and crewed aboard various classic vessels of unforgettable beauty and elegance offering their talents in an effort to boost performance at OPTIMUM levels.

To be more specific Giannis Kapos crewed once again on the little green lateen AROKALI built in Spetses, and repeated last year’s 1st podium finish in the lateen division with finishes 1,1,1,1,1,1!!!

George Belesis crewed on CARINA in the Classic A division finishing in 7thplace with a scoreline 12, 4, 7, 6.

Nick Lazos and Lambros Nakis crewed for TALLALUH owner in the Contemporary Classic Yacht Division and took 1st place, posting 2,1,1,1 in the 4 races conducted.

Pericles Livas was found for 5th consecutive year onboard NAVISA, the 1907 Seaview Mermaid One Design, managing 2nd place in the Classic B division, posting 4,2,2,2 in the 4 races conducted.

The honor for OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK team members comes from the repeated invitation from SAVANNAH, a 90-footer in the Spirit of Tradition division that returned to defend her title she won last year.  SAVANNAH was once more the fastest yacht competing in Spetses this year too and surely attracted immense attention by her beauty, elegance and performance.  OPTIMUM Team members Alexis Chrysochoides, Patroklos Tachtatzis, Antoine Drilias, Manolis Markogiannakis, Gerasimos Petratos and Optimum Team mentor Nick Lykiardopulos joined the regular crew that campaigns SAVANNAH in various locations around the world, as “international locals” and provided local knowledge blended with competitive edge. And they succeeded defend their title in grand style winning the 1st podium position with a scoreline 3,1,1,2.

This is sailing “back to the past” with wooden boats with wooden masts that make all these “live” sounds through the waves and the wind that fuel your senses with anticipation of doing the best possible to guide them safely to the finish line without strain them more than the old ladies can cope with.  It is a fine balance that OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK team members figured it out with great success this long weekend.
