The 23rd consecutive season for the OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team will commence in less than 15 days. The Team is proud to announce the signing of a new sponsor, THENAMARIS. THENAMARIS is a global ship management company managing a world-class fleet of ocean-going vessels. The company’s vision is to be the model ship management company, and its team continuously strives to undertake their business activities with absolutely no accidents, no harm to people and no harm to the environment while delivering the highest quality products and services to its customers around the world.
The 2016 racing season will be very demanding, with the peak being the European Championship which will take place in early July in Porto Carras, Halkidiki. With a race schedule commencing in May, OPTIMUM 3 will be at the starting line in many events including the Athens Trophy, Spring Series, Posidonia Cup, Y.C.G Sailing week and the Andros Race. The 53rd Aegean Rally that starts just a week after the conclusion of the European Championship will stretch Team OPTIMUM’s capabilities, but the Team is keen to perform and maximize results for THENAMARIS.
“For the 2016 season, we have outlined a tough racing schedule. Team members are committed to do their best and get OPTIMUM 3 – THENAMARIS on the podium as many times as possible in order to welcome THENAMARIS to the sport of Offshore Sailing. We are also excited with the prospect of providing our OPTIMUM platform for use by THENAMARIS personnel and associates during the Possidonia Cup, and possibly for other corporate hospitality and team-building activities. During the winter months, a lot of work has been done on servicing and upgrading most of the systems on board that affect the boat’s performance. Furthermore, we expect OPTIMUM 3 – THENAMARIS to really shine upon the arrival of the new Quantum carbon Mainsail and Code 2 Jib. Quantum sail designer and Team Optimum trimmer Patroklos Tachtatzis has made a huge effort designing and making our new sails, and is anxious to measure the actual performance gain against the expected. New Kapa Ropes provided by the leading rope manufacturing company in Europe, D. Koronakis S.A., are also expected to handle the immense loads experienced with less weight and stretch characteristics than last year. But what makes us really happy is that all 25 Optimum Team members have declared their availability and willingness to work hard for another season to get the job done successfully. We will have a hard time determining the matrix of which 15 yachtsmen will be on board for which race for Optimum results. It will be a tough call…!”, according to the Optimum Team leaders Nick Lazos and Periklis Livas.
2016 is an Olympic year, but also the seventh year of the economic and political crisis in Greece. Team OPTIMUM has managed to stay afloat through the careful use of resources as well as the extra effort and discipline shown by all Team members. Solid groundwork is already in place for this season – so let the sailing and racing commence!
