Andros, Island, Chora, August 31, 2019.
It is not easy or common but when you manage to win Line Honors and on handicap overall, it is sensational. When all competing yachts in the 52nd Andros Yacht Race trailing OPTIMUM 3 crossed the finish line, the Race Committee was able to post the handicap results. Team OPTIMUM-SAMOS Steamship Co. of Nautical Club Kalamaki won gold from Yacht Team PEGA-GOULANDRIS Bros, which was the winner of the 56th AEGEAN Rally a month ago, with BLACK JACK on third place.
“We knew we had raced smart and pushed hard for a handicap overall win but we also had our share of miss-happenings that cost us a few seconds here and there along the course during 8,5 hours of racing to the finish line in Andros. PEGA-GOULANDRIS Bros arrived 2,5 hours later as she is a smaller/slower yacht, but only 45 sec behind us on corrected handicap time, a tight gold win that make us feel even more proud and happy. After racing more than ten years with OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team I may say we have recorded plenty of thrilling results and it always feels sweet to be on top” says OPTIMUM crew boss Nikos Apostolakis.
There are no words to describe the hospitality Nautical Club Andros has provided to all participants including a fantastic brunch at the club and a unique full dinner/dance reception party at the magnificent estate of N.C.Andros member Mr. Adamadios Polemis.
Please stay tuned to follow Team OPTIMUM-SAMOS Steamship Co. performing in today’s coastal race in Andros.
