OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team members have worked hard to prep their newly acquired racing boat OPTIMUM S for racing. And racing with her commenced for the first time over two consecutive weekends in the 12 th ATHENS Trophy 2022, the top inshore round the cans event in the Athens area. The Race Committee managed to complete 10 W/L courses in light sea breeze conditions over the two weekends and Team OPTIMUM – Samos Steamship posted a scorecard of 6, 8, 8, 10, 8, 7, 6, 4, 5, 5. It was a fantastic opportunity to get back in action and raise back our crew work coordination plus get used to the new crew choreography and boat systems of OPTIMUM S.
“We are on a steep learning curve on racing our new boat and we felt some improvement every other race. All Team OPTIMUM-Samos Steamship members worked hard to chip in progressing our play and race around the tight course with a boat that is set up for offshore racing. Nevertheless, we did pack 10 starts and realized how OPTIMUM S accelerates in tight situations, sailing angles, mast and rigging set up, crew weight positioning, sail selection, a taste of everything. Our debriefings were long and juicy and we can’t wait for more in two weeks time, we are in love!”, states Team OPTIMUM co-skipper Vaggelis Nikolopoulos.
We are pleased hitting the start line on schedule and in good old OPTIMUM spirit. We have no words to thank our team members, our great sponsor Samos Steamship, our Club N.C.Kalamaki, Paul Eldrid and Indian Sailing Team, our technical experts Christos Chatzidimitriou and Stergios Papadopoulos, our rope experts Koronakis S.A. and Manos Pasamichalis of Ropealign Rigging, our engine mechanics DALEZIOS, our life saving experts Lalizas S.A., INSB Surveyors and KALAVRIAS crane. Finally easy dot S.A. and Daltec S.A. for the ongoing branding. All together, contributed and assisted in a timely manner to sort out our new weapon and get us in position to move on with what sailing teams do: RACING!
Thank you.
