Team OPTIMUM-Samos Steamship continues training on its new racing boat Carkeek 47 Grand Prix yacht OPTIMUM S and most importantly racing as much as possible ahead of the 59th Aegean Rally and the 2nd edition of the AEGEAN 600. As such, last weekend OPTIMUM S competed in the 10th Posidonia Cup on Friday and Patroklos Race on Saturday posting a 6th and a 3rd overall in ORCi respectively. The northern gusty conditions that prevailed both days reached winds up to 28-30 knots and the team enjoyed speed bursts up to 22,5 Knots in full control and full of smiles.
“We start to feel comfortable with the powerful winch package, the halyard and reef locks but have a long way to get used to the furling Zero sails and the sail wardrobe in general. However the more miles and time we put on the more we learn and improve. On Friday we were honored to have five Samos Steamship associates on board for the Posidonia Cup race and they shared the thrills and spills of our state of the art new thoroughbred racing yacht. On Saturday we experienced some heavy upwind work, which was a good test for what lies ahead in our extended Aegean Sea racing. Overall we are competitive in straight line speed but have some way to go in changing gears in corners or in wind transitions. We call it the year of discovery”, says Nikos Apostolakis, our trustworthy pitman and Team OPTIMUM crew boss.
The weeklong Aegean Rally starts on Saturday 11th and we will get to taste OPTIMUM S in the open sea day and night. We have done our homework, OPTIMUM S is well prepared and we are looking on being as competitive as possible in the 28th participation of Team OPTIMUM in the Aegean Rally.
Stay tuned!
