Since 2022, when the two O.S.A. Dehler 30ods arrived in Greece, OPTIMUM Sailing Academy has been involved in the emerging Greek double handed scene as our little rockets are extremely suitable for this sailing discipline. With the support of LALIZAS and PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGIES, OPTIMUM 4 will participates for third consecutive year in the National Offshore DH Cup taking place on the first weekend of October. In 2022 and 2023 the duo of Team OPTIMUM co-Principal Periklis Livas and Team OPTIMUM helmsman/trimmer Vaggelis Nikolopoulos were silver national medalists both times in this 30+ hours duration offshore race. This year OPTIMUM Academy focuses on seducing the young generation to all offshore sailing disciplines, and O.S.A. lines up a father and son duo for the DH Nationals, namely Periklis Livas and 20-year-old Vassilis Livas, fresh from becoming silver National champion in Formula Kite Olympic Class in September.
“Vassilis has a strong sailing background since the age of seven, training and competing in various sailing disciplines from Optimist, 420s and Lasers and Formula Kite all the way to offshore crewing on daily races up to 600-mile races like Rolex Middle Sea Race and Aegean 600. It is a dream come true for me to do the DH Nationals as a father and son duo and we managed a couple of training sessions plus a race to POROS island last weekend that proved a good test and an exceptional training platform due to the various conditions that prevailed, managing a worthy 6thplace overall and 2nd in Class 3 racing against full crew teams. Double Handed offshore sailing is very interesting and challenging segment of our sport, and hopefully will attract more of the attention of the young generation. We will definitely try for the best possible result, but I am already super happy just because I will compete for a National title with my son.
