The 28th Spring Series organized by Yacht Club VOULA took place over the last two weekends of May. Two coastal races of 27 and 17 nautical miles on the first weekend followed by a 33 nautical mile dash from VOULA to KEA island, stay overnight, with a return on Sunday back to VOULA. A scoring gate at midpoint both ways kept crews focused and tensed. Team OPTIMUM-Samos Steamship competed in the Spring series as part of its buildup for the upcoming Aegean 600. The OPTIMUM S scorecard of 6, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 was good enough for Team OPTIMUM to take the Spring Series Trophy home.
“Posting bullets on the scoreboard and winning regattas always feels nice. However, we know we have to put more time on board to exploit the full potential of OPTIMUM S. The boat systems are mostly sorted out and to-do-lists are diminishing. Crew work is improving steadily and we follow a solid schedule that will hopefully allow for mid-season peak performance during the Aegean 600. The race to KEA and back in up to force 6 served as a successful shake up for the Team members, and reminded to all how fast and wet the Aegean rides soon to come will be”, says Team Optimum co-skipper Nick Lazos.
This steady progress and positive outlook is based on the commitment of our patron Samos Steamship that stands by Team OPTIMUM at all times, especially so at bad times. We are privileged to have such a partner who values the Team win or lose. So, heads in, work in progress in all areas, all the way to the start of the Aegean 600 in July 10th. Stay tuned…
