Athens, Sunday, May 3rd, 2015, 23:00.
OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team completed the first regatta in the 2015 calendar on 3rd place in a weekend long series organized by the prestigious Yacht Club Greece (YCG). The Race Committee filed in 5 inshore races around buoys in Faliron Bay in sunny and light wind conditions from 7 to 11 knots from SSW. OPTIMUM 3-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK managed a score line of 3, 2, 4, 2, 3 that allowed the 15-strong male team to add some more bronze in their collection of trophies. Although, the score line suggest the podium was certain, in reality it was down to 1 sec in the final 5th race on Day 2!!!
“We had a thrilling finale today by beating our main rival BULLET TP52 by 1 sec on corrected time in the final 5th race of the series. 1 sec after 53 min. of racing a W/L course of 6,1 miles long was breathtaking for both teams!!! Last season the score Bullet vs Optimum was 7-7 in 14 individual races and reads 2-3 already for the 2015 season. The series provided a great arena for Team Optimum to practice all skills and test all of OPTIMUM systems on board. Spirits were high among the crew due to the easy going conditions that prevailed throughout both racing days and the team unity that prevailed at all functions. We all look forward for the training session on Wednesday May 6th and the coming weekend for another go of close inshore racing in Faliron Bay from where someone may view Acropolis of Athens when sailing…”, says wind spotter/grinder/trimmer Thanos Papasideris that returns in the main roster of Team OPTIMUM after a couple of years of absence for professional and family reasons.
ASPIDA and SAXOBANK made their debut for this year too as sponsors on board OPTIMUM 3 and we have no words to thank them for their valuable and continuous support. The crew line-up for this successful first outing for 2015 included: Alexandros Sofroniadis, George Hatzigeorgiou, Giannis Kapos, Alexis Chrysochoides, Kostas Makridis, Manolis Markogiannakis, George Kyragiannis, Tassos Dikastopoulos, Thanos Papasideris, Patroklos Tachtatzis, Manos Roudas, Periklis Livas, Nikos Lazos and last but not least newcomers/youngsters Gary Gabri and Sotiris Tsamis that seemed to blend nicely with all the rest. So, big welcome and bravo!
